CBI Arrests Central Bank of India Officer Red-Handed While Accepting Bribe in Shahdol
An officer of Central Bank of India has been arrested in Shahdol Madhya Pradesh.
Abhyankar Sharma, an assistant manager at the Central Bank of India in Shahdol, was arrested red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹10,000.
A team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Jabalpur, conducted the operation. The manager was caught demanding the bribe in exchange for permission to operate a banking kiosk.
This action was taken based on a complaint from Shahdol resident Deependra Singh. The complainant had applied to the Central Bank of India to open four banking kiosks in the district.
It is alleged that during this process, Assistant Manager Abhyankar Sharma, posted at the regional office, demanded a bribe of 10,000 rupees in exchange for approving the proposal and issuing the necessary permissions.
Frustrated by the persistent demands for a bribe, the complainant filed a complaint with S.K. Rathi, Superintendent of Police, Jabalpur unit of the CBI. After preliminary verification of the complaint, the CBI planned to take action.
The trap was laid and on Thursday, the complainants met with the bank official with the bribe money. The manager accepted Rs.10,000 from Deependra Singh near a Gurudwara outside the bank premises.
As soon as he took possession of the bribe, a CBI team apprehended him on the spot. The manager was taken into custody and questioned. A case has been registered against the manager under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The accused assistant manager is a resident of Gwalior, and as a result, the CBI team also raided his residence in Gwalior.
More details will be released soon.
