A former Development Officer of United India Insurance Company has been sentenced to 4 years in jail for taking a bribe to clear an insurance claim. The verdict was given by the CBI Special Court in Vijayawada on 30th June 2025.
The officer, Shri Kola Rama Narasimham, was posted at the Kandukuru Branch in Prakasam District, Andhra Pradesh. According to the case, he demanded a bribe of ₹10,000 from a person who had filed a claim for compensation after his buffalo had died. Shri Narasimham was supposed to forward the claim file to the Divisional Office in Guntur but told the complainant that he would only do it if he was paid a bribe.
The complainant approached the CBI, and a trap was set. Shri Narasimham was caught red-handed while taking the bribe of ₹10,000.
After investigating the case, the CBI filed a chargesheet against him on 27th October 2017. After a full trial, the court found him guilty of demanding and accepting a bribe while working as a government officer. He has now been sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment and also fined ₹2,000.
This case shows that misusing power for personal gain, even in small amounts, can lead to serious legal action. The CBI has once again shown its commitment to fighting corruption and protecting the rights of honest citizens.
