In a disclosure dated September 7, 2026, SBI said that the bank unions have proposed to go on strike on September 11, September 28, 29 and 30, 2026, followed by a continuous strike from October 26, 2026.

The bank said that the strike notices have been served by UFBU on behalf of its seven constituent unions and associations, namely All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA), All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC), National Confederation of Bank Employees (NCBE), All India Bank Officers’ Association (AIBOA), Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI), Indian National Bank Employees Federation (INBEF) and Indian National Bank Officers’ Congress (INBOC).

SBI said that it has made all necessary arrangements to ensure the normal functioning of its branches and offices during the proposed strike days. However, the bank also cautioned that work in the bank may be impacted due to the strike.

The first strike is scheduled for September 11, 2026. After this, bank employees and officers are scheduled to observe a three-day strike on September 28, 29 and 30. If the issues remain unresolved, UFBU has announced a continuous strike from October 26, 2026.

The current agitation by bank unions is linked to several pending demands, including the demand for five-day banking and issues related to the Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.

For bank customers, the proposed strikes could lead to disruption or delays in branch-level banking services on the strike dates. SBI has said that it is taking steps to minimise the impact, but services may still be affected if employees participate in the strike in large numbers.

The proposed continuous strike from October 26 is the most significant part of the UFBU programme. Further discussions between the bank unions, IBA and the Government will be important to determine whether the strike programme can be avoided or modified before the proposed dates.
