UP Gramin Bank Managers sent to 5 years Jail for demanding Bribe in KCC Loans
The CBI Court in Lucknow has convicted and sentenced three accused, including two public servants namely, Rakesh Chandra Thakur, the then Branch Manager, Baroda UP Gramin Bank, Hariharpur Branch, Sultanpur and Ravi Kumar Gupta, the then Assistant Manager, Purvanchal Bank, Partawal Bazar Branch, District Maharajganj, and a private person namely, Indrajeet Singh @ Babu Saheb, in two separate bribery cases.
Purvanchal Bank (formerly Purvanchal Gramin Bank) was a regional rural bank in India. It was amalgamated into Baroda U.P. Bank in 2020 (and later unified under Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank), sponsored by the Bank of Baroda.
The First case was registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on 12.03.2018 against Rakesh Chandra Thakur, the then Branch Manager, Baroda UP Gramin Bank, Hariharpur Branch, Sultanpur, based on a complaint alleging that the accused Rakesh Chandra Thakur demanded an illegal gratification of Rs.6,000 from the complainant for disbursing the first installment of his Kisan Credit Card ( KCC) Loan of Rs.4.25 Lakh. The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused Rakesh Chandra Thakur red-handed while demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs.6,000 from the complainant.
After completion of investigation, the CBI filed Chargesheet on 10.05.2018 and Charges were framed on 21.12.2020 against the accused Rakesh Chandra Thakur.
The Ld. Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, CBI, Court No. 06, Lucknow vide order dated 25.08.2026 convicted and sentenced the accused Rakesh Chandra Thakur, the then Branch Manager, Baroda UP Gramin Bank, Hariharpur Branch, Sultanpur, to Rigorous Imprisonment for Five Years with a fine of Rs. 25,000.
The Second Case was registered by the CBI on 11.08.2016 against Ravi Kumar Gupta, the then Assistant Manager, Purvanchal Bank, Partawal Bazar Branch, District Maharajganj, based on a complaint alleging that the accused Ravi Kumar Gupta demanded an illegal gratification of Rs. 15,000 from the complainant for processing his KCC loan. The accused Ravi Kumar Gupta demanded and accepted illegal gratification of Rs.10,000/- from the complainant through a private person namely, Indrajeet Singh @ Babu Saheb. Both the accused Ravi Kumar Gupta and Indrajeet Singh were caught red-handed while demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs.10,000 from the complainant.
After completion of investigation, the CBI filed charge-sheet on 30.09.2016 against Ravi Kumar Gupta, the then Assistant Manager, Purvanchal Bank and Indrajeet Singh @ Babu Saheb, Private Person and charges were framed on 27.03.2019 against both the accused.
The Ld. Special Judge, CBI (West), Lucknow, vide Order dated 25.08.2026,convicted and sentenced the accused Ravi Kumar Gupta, the then Assistant Manager, Purvanchal Bank, Partawal Bazar Branch, District Maharajganj and Indrajeet Singh @ Babu Saheb, Private person to Rigorous Imprisonment for Four Years with a fine of Rs. 40,000 each.
