Scale IV and above officers are considered part of the top management of banks. During the strike, they are expected not to participate and to continue performing their duties. Bank management is also asking these officers to stay away from the strike, and there is a possibility of disciplinary action if they participate.

But this raises a serious question: When these officers face threats, harassment or physical attacks while performing their duties, does the same management stand firmly behind them?

Senior executives take important and sometimes difficult decisions on behalf of the bank. They deal with recovery cases, difficult customers, administrative matters, disciplinary issues and other sensitive situations. These responsibilities can sometimes expose them to threats, harassment and even physical attacks.

Unfortunately, several incidents in recent years have raised questions about whether bank management has fulfilled its responsibility of protecting bank employees. There have been cases where Scale IV and other senior bank executives were allegedly attacked or harassed while performing their official duties. Instead of receiving immediate and strong support from the management, the affected officers reportedly had to wait for unions to raise their voices.

In majority of the cases, unions had to step in before the management took action. There have also been allegations that bank management failed to promptly ensure registration of an FIR even when senior executives were physically assaulted.

This is why Scale IV and above officers also need to think about their position. Scale IV and above officers should also consider standing together with their fellow bank employees and unions. Unity among employees should not stop at a particular scale. Scale 4 and above should join bank strike.
