Muzaffarpur: Police SI Accused of Slapping Indian Overseas Bank Chief Manager
After Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, one more chief manager has been assaulted in Muzaffarpur, Bihar.
The incident occurred on Monday evening at Pani Tanki Chowk in Muzaffarpur, Bihar during a routine vehicle checking drive. It is alleged that a Sub-Inspector (SI) from Mithanpura Police Station slapped the Chief Manager of Indian Overseas Bank.

The shocking point is that when the bank officer protested, he was allegedly assaulted again.
After receiving information about the incident, the SDPO (City-1) and the Station House Officer (SHO) of Mithanpura Police Station reached the spot. They later calmed the situation after speaking with the people present. Meanwhile, several bystanders recorded the entire incident on their mobile phones.
According to reports, Md. Zafar Iqbal, a resident of New Colony, is the Chief Manager of Indian Overseas Bank. On Monday evening, he was travelling with an acquaintance when police were conducting a vehicle checking drive near Pani Tanki Chowk.
It is alleged that during the checking, SI Rahul Kumar signalled him to stop. According to the victim, he stopped his vehicle a few metres ahead. In the meantime, the SI reached him and slapped him. When he asked the reason for the slap, the police officer allegedly assaulted him again. After this, the victim started protesting strongly at the spot.
During the commotion, the victim and local residents also alleged that other police personnel threatened to shoot the crowd while trying to disperse them.
According to eyewitnesses, some police personnel were heard shouting, “Disperse the crowd, or we will shoot!” This further angered the people present, and they started protesting against the police action.
As the situation became tense, several senior police officials, including Mithanpura SHO Ajay Kumar, arrived at the spot. The officials tried to calm the situation by talking to the victim and local residents. The situation returned to normal only after long discussions and persuasion. Later, the ASP (City-1) also reached the spot and collected details about the incident from the police personnel involved.
Commenting on the matter, City SP Mohinbullah Ansari said that the police had brought the situation under control. He said an investigation was being conducted into the allegations against the SI regarding slapping a person and threatening to open fire. He added that if the allegations are found to be true, departmental action will be taken against the concerned police personnel.
