The Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) carried out a major raid on Saturday at the residence and properties of Anil Suhane, a retired Assistant Manager of the District Cooperative Central Bank. The operation revealed assets worth over ₹6 crore, far exceeding his declared income, raising suspicions of corruption and financial irregularities.

The raid uncovered a lavish three-storey house located in the upscale Basant Vihar Colony in Ujjain. Additionally, investigators found a newly constructed four-storey commercial building on the Ujjain-Indore Main Road, spanning 2400 sq. ft., and a 2300 sq. ft. plot in Kshipra Vihar, Ujjain.

Other properties included:

  • Two plots of 650 sq. ft. each in Vinay Nagar.
  • Two shops, each 600 sq. ft., in the busy Dawa Bazar area.
  • Cash amounting to over ₹9 lakh.
  • Gold and silver jewelry worth several lakhs.
  • Three four-wheelers and three two-wheelers.
  • Three unopened bank lockers awaiting investigation.

A case has been registered against Suhane under Sections 13 (1) (b) and 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (amended in 2018). The EOW suspects that Suhane amassed his wealth through corrupt practices, particularly in handling funds allocated for government agricultural loan schemes.

Originally from Panna district, Suhane began his career in 1991 as a Sub-Engineer at the District Cooperative Bank, earning a modest salary of ₹3,000 per month. By the time he retired as Assistant Manager on December 31, 2024, his total earnings over his career amounted to ₹70 lakh. However, the assets unearthed during the raid significantly exceed this amount, suggesting undisclosed sources of income.

The raid was conducted under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police Sandeep Nigwal, with a 30-member EOW team. Authorities believe that additional undisclosed assets may surface as the investigation continues.
