The Delhi government is preparing to launch its flagship financial assistance scheme for women, now called the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana. Earlier, the scheme was known as Mahila Samriddhi Yojana under the previous AAP government. The BJP government led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has renamed the scheme and will implement it through the Women and Child Development (WCD) Department.

₹2,500 Monthly Financial Assistance

Under the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana, eligible women will receive ₹2,500 every month. The government plans to provide this benefit to around 17 lakh women from economically weaker sections (EWS) in Delhi. The scheme aims to improve the financial independence, self-reliance, and dignity of women.

The financial assistance will be transferred directly to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

Scheme Likely to Launch Around Raksha Bandhan

The Delhi government is expected to launch the scheme around Raksha Bandhan on 28 August 2026. Although funds for the scheme were allocated in the 2026-27 Delhi Budget, its implementation was delayed due to the lack of verified data to identify eligible beneficiaries.
