
Una: An attempted robbery was reported late at night at the Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch in Rakkad Colony, located near the district headquarters. The miscreants broke into the bank by cutting the locks of the ATM and the branch’s shutter. During the break-in, the ATM was severely damaged, and the wires of the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) connected to the CCTV cameras were cut. However, there is no confirmation of cash theft as of now.

Incident Details:
According to the complaint lodged by Anshul Jain, the branch head of PNB Rakkad Colony, the incident took place around 1 a.m. Mr. Jain received a phone call informing him about suspicious activity at the bank’s ATM. He rushed to the site with a colleague and discovered that the bank’s shutter and ATM locks had been broken.
Upon inspection, it was found that the central lock of the bank’s shutter had also been broken. The ATM was badly damaged, rendering it inaccessible. The CCTV camera outside the branch was vandalized, and the wires of the DVR inside the branch were cut. Due to the extent of the damage, it is currently unclear if any cash was stolen from the ATM.

Police Action:
The local police have registered a case against unknown individuals based on Mr. Jain’s complaint. Superintendent of Police (SP) Rakesh Singh confirmed that the police are actively investigating the matter. “Some evidence related to the accused has been found, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest them soon,” said SP Singh.
Current Status:
The damaged ATM is not operational, and authorities are yet to determine if any cash was stolen. The police are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas and other leads to track down the culprits. This incident highlights the need for heightened security measures at bank branches and ATMs, especially in isolated areas.
