Lucknow Bank Robbery Update: Two Robbers Killed by Police in Encounter
Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: Two criminals from Bihar, involved in a ₹1 crore bank heist in Lucknow’s Chinhat area, were killed in separate police encounters late on Monday, officials said. The Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP), Prashant Kumar, confirmed the developments on Tuesday.
Details of the Encounters
The first encounter occurred in Lucknow, where police shot dead Sobind Kumar, a resident of Chaargaon in Bihar. According to the police, he was confronted near midnight on Monday, but one of his accomplices managed to escape during the operation.
The second encounter took place in Ghazipur district, near the Bihar border. The criminal killed in this operation was identified as Sunny Dayal, a resident of Amaliya village in Bihar’s Munger district. Police said Sunny was attempting to cross into Bihar when the encounter occurred. Both men had a history of serious criminal activities, the DGP stated.
Breakdown of the Bank Heist
A gang of seven men, six of whom were from Bihar, broke into the Indian Overseas Bank in Lucknow’s Chinhat area on the night of Saturday and Sunday. The gang looted cash and valuables worth over ₹1 crore after breaking into the bank lockers.
Investigations revealed that these men had met while serving time in Jalandhar Jail, Punjab, where they planned the heist. They executed the robbery with precision, escaping before anyone could respond.
Arrests Made and Search for Remaining Accused
Following the heist, police launched a massive manhunt. On Monday, three of the suspects were arrested during an operation near Kisan Path in Chinhat. This brings the total number of apprehended or neutralized suspects to five. The police are actively searching for the remaining two members of the gang, who are still on the run.
Police Statement
UP ADG (Law and Order), Amitabh Yash, shared further details, stating that Sobind Kumar was intercepted by Lucknow police late Monday night. Despite resistance, he was shot dead in the encounter. Meanwhile, Sunny Dayal was cornered in Ghazipur while attempting to flee across the border to Bihar.
Police have assured that efforts are ongoing to capture the remaining suspects. They also highlighted the criminal backgrounds of the gang members, emphasizing the organized nature of their activities.
