Over Rs.10 crore Bank Robbery in Mangaluru

In a daring daylight robbery, a gang of armed assailants looted valuables worth an estimated ₹10–12 crore from the Sahakari Sangh Bank in Kotekar, Mangaluru, on Friday.

The Robbery

The heist occurred between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm, according to the police. A group of five to six masked men, armed with a pistol, sword, and knife, stormed the bank. They reportedly threatened the staff and forced them to open the vault containing gold jewellery and other valuables.

At the time of the incident, four to five employees were present in the bank. The robbers escaped the scene in a blue Fiat car, police officials confirmed. The stolen items are estimated to be worth ₹10–12 crore, though a detailed assessment of the loot is still underway.

Investigation Underway

The Mangaluru police have launched an intensive investigation, forming multiple teams to track down the suspects. Technical surveillance and other leads are being used to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who was in the city when the incident occurred, convened an emergency meeting with senior police officials to address the situation. Inspector General of the Western Range Amit Singh, Commissioner of Police Mangaluru City Anupam Agarwal, and Superintendent of Police N Yathish were present, along with Speaker U T Khader.

The Chief Minister emphasized the need for swift action to bring the culprits to justice and ensure the safety of citizens. The brazen robbery has sent shockwaves through the city, raising concerns about security at financial institutions. Further updates on the investigation are awaited.
