Bankers assaulted by Lawyers in Agra at Lok Adalat
A fight has been reported between Bank employees and lawyers at the National Lok Adalat held in Agra, Uttar Pradesh.
A dispute broke out between bank employees and some lawyers at the Bank of India stall over reducing the loan settlement amount.

National Lok Adalats are organised across India to dispose of cases quickly. Banks also organise camps in these National Lok Adalats to recover pending loan amounts from customers. For example, if a customer took a loan of Rs. 10 lakh from a bank but defaulted on repayments, the customer is given an opportunity to settle the loan for a lower amount through the National Lok Adalat. Banks set up stalls, customers visit them, and loan settlement cases are resolved.
Bank of India employees alleged that a customer visited the stall for settlement of loan. He was accompanied by lawyers who were forcing Bank employees to reduce the amount of loan for settlement. When they denied, lawyers used indecent language, abused Bank employees and also assaulted them.

Broken chairs were found at the bank stall, which are a proof of assault. It has been stated that the matter will be investigated based on CCTV footage.

A large number of people had gathered at the Lok Adalat to settle their disputes and negotiate settlements for bank loans.
Some people arrived at the stall and began pressuring Bank employees to settle the loan for a lower amount. When bank officials insisted on taking action according to the rules, a dispute ensued. It is alleged that bank employees were assaulted and abused. Female employees were also allegedly abused.
Following the incident, Union Bank employees also protested in support of Bank of India. Bank employees questioned the security arrangements and began closing the stalls of other banks at the Lok Adalat.

Lead Bank Manager (LDM) Rishikesh stated that the entire matter will be investigated based on CCTV footage. He added that this is the first such incident to come to light during a Lok Adalat hearing in years. He also stated that an FIR will be filed.
Bank employees say they lack adequate security at events like Lok Adalat, where large numbers of people attend for loan settlements. They have demanded increased security from the administration.
