In a shocking case from Agra, a bank employee, along with his wife and son, allegedly set up several fake societies and cheated people out of lakhs of rupees. Following an order from the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), a formal case has now been registered at the New Agra police station.
How the Scam Started
The case was brought to light after Virendra Singh, a resident of Amar Vihar Dayalbagh; Vishakha, a resident of Moti Katra; and Archana Chaudhary from Aligarh approached the court. They requested that a case be registered against the accused.
According to their complaint, one of their relatives, who worked at the State Bank of India (SBI), introduced them to Akhilesh, a resident of Kailashpuri. Akhilesh was working as a clerk at the SBI branch in Jaipur House, Agra.
The False Promise of High Returns
Akhilesh allegedly told the victims that he was running a society that offered fixed deposits (FDs) with a very attractive interest rate of 10 to 12 percent — much higher than what regular banks offer. Believing this offer to be genuine, the victims withdrew their money from the bank and deposited more than ₹6 lakh into a society named Agra Mandal Bank Employees Thrift and Cooperative, between June 2018 and December 2018. This society was reportedly set up by Akhilesh himself. The accused even provided fake fixed deposit certificates to the victims to make the scam look authentic.
The Big Revelation
Later, it came to light that Akhilesh, along with his wife Sushma and son, had created several fake societies. Shockingly, the family had appointed themselves as the officers of these societies. The police said that more than 100 people have fallen victim to this fraud. Many of these victims gathered at Dayalbagh police outpost (Dayalbagh Chowki) to demand justice and protest against the fraud.
Police Action
The in-charge of New Agra Police Station confirmed that, following the court’s order, a case has been officially registered. He assured that legal action will be taken after a thorough investigation into the matter.
