Robbery Attempt at Baroda UP Bank Branch in Basti, Thief Arrested

Late on Friday night, a thief attempted to steal from the Baroda UP Bank branch in Maharajganj, Basti district, by cutting through a window grill. Local residents noticed the damage and quickly gathered at the scene. Upon receiving the information, the police arrived and surrounded the bank building from all sides.

The incident occurred in the house of businessman Parmatma Prasad Maurya in Maharajganj town, Kaptanganj area, where the UP Baroda Bank branch is situated. The thief accessed the upper floors of the bank, cut through four rods of a window grill, and threw them down. He also shattered the window glass in his attempt to break in.

Local residents, upon hearing the noise and seeing the damage, alerted the landlord, leading to a large crowd gathering outside the bank. The police acted swiftly and apprehended the thief on the spot.

Kaptanganj Station Officer (SO) Deepak Kumar Dubey confirmed the arrest, stating that they acted promptly after receiving the report. The thief has been identified as Ramtaul Nishad, a resident of Khemrajpur village in the Harraiya police station area. The police are interrogating him, and it has been revealed that he has a criminal history, with multiple cases already registered against him. Legal proceedings are underway.
