Punjab & Sind Bank Officers announce Strike on July 18 over dictatorial attitude of the management in the Agra Region
The Punjab & Sind Bank Officers Federation (UP & UK), Lucknow, has served a strike notice proposing a one-day strike on July 18, 2026. The strike has been called to protest over an eight-point charter of demands raised by the officers’ federation. The General Secretary of the Punjab & Sind Bank Officers Federation (UP & UK), Lucknow, submitted the strike notice through a letter dated July 2, 2026.
As per the Office of the Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), Kanpur, under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the strike notice has now been taken up for conciliation proceedings. The Dy. CLC has asked the bank union and bank management to be present in office on July 9, 2026, at 1:00 PM to discuss their issues. The proceedings will be held at the Office of the Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), NSTI Campus, Govind Nagar, PO-Udyog Nagar, Kanpur-208022.

The bank has been asked to attend the meeting either in person or through a duly authorised representative who is fully aware of the matter. The authorised representative must also bring all relevant records and evidence, including oral and documentary evidence, before the labour authorities.
What is the reason of Strike?
As per General Secretary Vijay Krishna Mathur, the Regional Manager (RM), Agra Region, is specifically targeting differently-abled staff and women employees and has created a suffocating and toxic working environment in the region.
When the association took up the matter with the Zonal Manager in Lucknow, he personally spoke to the Regional Manager several times and issued strict instructions to resolve the issues peacefully and amicably. Still the Regional Manager, Agra, continued with the same rigid and dictatorial attitude.
Punjab & Sind Bank has a total of 34 Regions and five Zones across India. According to the association, nowhere else in the country is such serious labour unrest and a chaotic working environment being witnessed as is currently being seen in the Agra Region. The Federation alleged that this clearly demonstrates that the approach of the Regional Manager, Agra, is insensitive, anti-staff and anti-bank, and is causing serious harm to the interests of the institution.
What are the demands?
The Federation has officially raised the following eight basic and serious issues:
- Misuse of Administrative Authority and Position: An immediate end should be put to the alleged oppressive, targeted harassment and closed-door dictatorial approach adopted by the Regional Manager (RM), Agra, which the Federation claims is a direct violation of the “Code of Discipline.”
- Serious Irregularities and Favouritism in the Transfer Process: The Federation alleged widespread nepotism, favouritism and arbitrary administrative conduct in the recent transfer process of officers. It has demanded an immediate and impartial review of the process.
- Harassment of Women and Differently-Abled Employees: The alleged violation of the statutory rights of women officers and differently-abled employees should be stopped. The Federation has also demanded an immediate end to alleged oppressive policies that force employees to submit forced resignations.
- Bias Against Staff in Kanpur and Other Specific Areas: The Federation has demanded an immediate end to alleged discriminatory and retaliatory administrative treatment of officers posted in Kanpur branches and certain other locations falling under the administrative control of the Agra Region.
- Alleged Unlawful Pressure for Third-Party Product Business: Excessive, unauthorised and mentally harassing pressure allegedly being placed on officers for cross-selling and non-core banking products should be stopped immediately.
- End Victimisation of Union Activists: The Federation has demanded a complete halt to punitive threats against office-bearers and alleged malicious isolation transfers for exercising democratic rights of collective bargaining.
- Strict Implementation of Regulated Working Hours: Prescribed working hours should be strictly implemented to prevent the alleged inhuman exploitation of officers’ labour and to protect their basic health, safety and work-life balance.
- High-Level Inquiry into the Alleged Anti-Institutional Work Culture: The Federation has demanded a high-level internal inquiry into the alleged serious damage being caused to the financial interests and institutional reputation of Punjab & Sind Bank due to what it described as the rigid and dictatorial attitude of the Regional Manager, Agra.
