Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) has announced a nationwide protest on August 17, 2026. The protest will be organised at district headquarters across the country to press for several long-pending demands related to workers, pensioners, bank employees and other sections of the workforce.
Decision Taken at BMS National Committee Meeting
According to BMS, the decision to organise the nationwide protest was taken during its National Committee Meeting held on July 26, 27 and 28, 2026. The meeting was held at the Sarla Birla University Campus in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
BMS Demands Increase in ESIC Wage Limit
One of the major demands of BMS is to increase the ESIC wage limit. The organisation wants the existing wage limit of Rs. 21,000 to be increased to Rs. 42,000.
Minimum EPF Pension of Rs. 7,500 Demanded
BMS has demanded a major increase in the minimum pension under EPF. It wants the minimum EPF pension to be increased from the existing Rs. 1,000 per month to Rs. 7,500 per month.
Demand to Increase EPF Wage Ceiling
The organisation has also demanded an increase in the EPF wage ceiling. BMS wants the current ceiling of Rs. 15,000 to be increased to Rs. 30,000.
Changes Demanded in Bonus Limits
BMS has demanded that the maximum wage limit used for bonus calculation be increased from Rs. 7,000 to Rs. 18,000. It has also demanded that the wage limit for bonus eligibility be increased from Rs. 21,000 to Rs. 42,000.
Five-Day Banking Week Included in Demands
The implementation of a five-day banking week is also among the major demands raised by BMS. The organisation wants the government to introduce a five-day working week in the banking sector.
Gratuity Limit Should Be Increased to Rs. 40 Lakh
BMS has demanded an increase in the maximum gratuity limit. It wants the existing maximum limit of Rs. 20 lakh to be doubled to Rs. 40 lakh.
National Minimum Wage of Rs. 30,000 Per Month
Another major demand is to fix the national minimum wage at Rs. 30,000 per month. BMS is seeking this minimum wage for workers across the country.
Other Demands Raised by BMS
BMS has also demanded an increase in the honorarium paid to scheme workers and equal pay for equal work for contract workers. It has called for the removal of provisions in labour laws that it considers anti-worker.
The organisation has also demanded job security for Development Officers of LIC of India, with no termination and no decrement.
