IDBI Bank Strike on 17 August Deferred
The United Forum of IDBI Officers & Employees (UFIOE) has deferred the proposed strike on August 17, 2026, against the strategic disinvestment of IDBI Bank.
The employees’ organisations had earlier given a strike notice and called for an All India Hunger Strike on March 9, 2026, opposing the proposed sale of IDBI Bank through strategic disinvestment.
Several meetings were held between the employees’ organisations and government officials regarding the proposed disinvestment. Recent conciliation meetings were held on July 24, August 6 and August 13, 2026. During these meetings, the union representatives urged that the Central Government should completely drop the plan for strategic disinvestment of IDBI Bank.
However, during the August 13 meeting, the DFS representative stated that IDBI Bank is a private sector bank and therefore DFS does not intervene in the matter. It was also stated that the strategic disinvestment process is being handled by DIPAM (Department of Investment and Public Asset Management) under the Ministry of Finance.
In view of the developments and the ongoing conciliation process, association has decided to defer the strike scheduled for August 17, 2026.
However, the organisation has made it clear that it retains the right to proceed with strike action if the Government moves ahead with the strategic disinvestment of IDBI Bank.
The next conciliation meeting has been scheduled for August 17, 2026. The organisation said it will inform its members about further developments after the meeting.
UFIOE has also asked its members to remain prepared for further action if the Government proceeds with the strategic disinvestment.
