RBI gives approval to open Banks on Sunday

The Reserve Bank of India has given its approval to open banks on Sunday – 27 September 2026.

IBA had requested RBI to grant permission to open banks on Sunday. RBI said that with a view to ensuring that the genuine banking needs of the public are not adversely affected for an extended period, you have our approval for keeping the branches, offices, ATM link branches and Currency Chests of banks fully operational on Sunday, September 27, 2026. The banks may be advised to ensure adherence to relevant legal requirements in this regard.

The RBI has given permission as Bank Employees have announced strike from 28 to 30 September 2026. 26 and 27 September fall on fourth Saturday and Sunday respectively, so Banks will remain closed for 5 days.
