UFBU Strike 2026 – LIVE Updates
United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has called for a 3-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to September 30, 2026. Bank Employees are demanding 5-day work week and cancellation of new PLI scheme. The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has also announced a continuous, nationwide indefinite strike starting Monday, October 26, 2026 if their demands are not fulfilled.

21 September 2026: Government has issued letter to all banks. Government has asked Banks to be ready for upcoming 3-day strike. Govt has asked banks to follow preparatory measures and checklist as provided by Govt. Click here to read the letter by Govt.
21 September 2026: Banks have asked senior executives to open branches and ensure smooth functioning. Banks have also asked senior executives to use police force.
21 September 2026: Government has urged Bank Employees not to participate in Strike. Government said that it has increased staff welfare of bank employees a lot. The bank employees have submitted two demands – implementation of 5-day banking and cancellation of new PLI scheme. Govt says new PLI scheme has been put on hold and one demand has been fulfilled. 21 September 2026: Government has asked Banks to prevent participation of employees in strike by any means. FIR may be filed against employees who prevent other employees from doing duty. A meeting was held between Finance Ministry and MD&CEOs of PSU Banks. Click here to read about it.
21 September 2026: Banks have asked Scale IV and Above not to participate in strike otherwise disciplinary action may be taken against them.
20 September 2026: Bank Employees all across India posted their demands on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). #5DayBankingNow was trending at no.1 on X and #AIBOC was trending at no.2.

7 September 2026: New PLI scheme put on hold by Government.
23 August 2026: UFBU announced All India Strike on 11th September 2026, All India Strike on 28th, 29th & 30th September 2026 and Indefinite Strike from 26th October 2026. It’s been more than 2 years but Government has not implemented 5-day banking but Government implemented discriminatory new PLI scheme.
21 August 2026: Suddenly, Punjab & Sind Bank credited PLI to senior executives as per new PLI scheme. After Punjab & Sind Bank, all other banks credited PLI.
28 March 2026: The All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC), along with other bank unions like AIBEA and NCBE, filed the writ petition in the Delhi High Court against the new PLI scheme.
18 March 2026: Government ordered Banks to credit PLI to senior executives.
UFBU requested Government not to implement new PLI scheme as the scheme is discriminatory.
19 November 2024: New Performance-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for senior executives and officers in Public Sector Banks (PSBs) was launched by the government on 19 November 2024.
8 March 2024: The framework for a 5-day banking week was officially agreed upon and signed between the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) and bank unions under the 12th Bipartite Settlement on March 8, 2024.
