The issue of fake currency is becoming more concerning, with counterfeit notes now surfacing directly from banks. Recently, the manager of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in Kanpur took a significant step to address this problem. The RBI manager has filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Sadar Kotwali, highlighting that fake notes were found in large quantities from the currency received from other banks’ vaults.

So far, eight fake Rs 100 notes have been identified. The local police are actively investigating this situation. IPS Gehlot, the RBI Kanpur manager, reported these fake notes to SP Hamirpur, noting the troubling trend of counterfeit currency appearing in the RBI’s currency vaults.

The RBI is now facing a challenge in holding the correct bank branches accountable for the fake notes discovered in their vaults. The manager mentioned difficulties in determining the appropriate police station for each bank branch involved.

To address this, the RBI manager requested SP Hamirpur to forward the FIR and the fake notes to the relevant police stations for further action. According to Kotwal Anup Singh, a case has been filed against an unknown person, and the investigation is underway. The counterfeit notes were found in the currency chest of the SBI branch in Hamirpur.
