Central Government Offices will remain closed in Delhi on 11 September due to BRICS Summit.
Central Government offices located in Delhi and New Delhi will remain closed on Friday, September 11, 2026, on the occasion of the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit being held in the national capital.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, announced the decision through an Office Memorandum issued on September 3, 2026.
The BRICS Business Forum and the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit are scheduled to be held from September 11 to September 13, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
The summit is expected to be attended by leaders from around 30 BRICS member and partner countries, along with heads of international organisations and business representatives from BRICS nations, including India.
The government said that the summit is a major international event and requires substantial logistical arrangements. Keeping this in mind and to minimise inconvenience to the general public, it has been decided to keep Central Government offices located in Delhi and New Delhi closed on September 11. September 12 and 13 are Saturday and Sunday respectively, so government offices will already remain closed on these two days.
The closure order has been circulated to various Central Government ministries, departments and important institutions, including UPSC, CVC, C&AG, the President’s Secretariat, Vice-President’s Secretariat, Supreme Court, Delhi High Court, Central Administrative Tribunal Principal Bench, Prime Minister’s Office, Cabinet Secretariat, Election Commission of India, National Human Rights Commission, Central Information Commission, National Commission for Women, NITI Aayog, Lok Sabha Secretariat, Rajya Sabha Secretariat and Reserve Bank of India.
The order also covers attached and subordinate offices of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions and the Ministry of Home Affairs in Delhi. The Chief Secretary of the Delhi Government and other concerned authorities have also been informed about the decision.
The Department of Personnel and Training has asked all concerned offices and authorities to take note of the closure.Therefore, Central Government employees working in offices located in Delhi and New Delhi will have September 11 as a holiday due to the BRICS Summit, followed by the regular weekend holidays on September 12 and 13.
