Swiss International Airlines (formerly Swiss Air) has come under fire after an explicit video showing a couple engaging in a sexual act onboard a flight surfaced online. The airline has launched an investigation into the incident, citing concerns of privacy violation.
The incident reportedly occurred in November 2024 during a 12-hour flight from Bangkok to Zurich (Flight LX181). According to media reports, the couple engaged in the act in the kitchen area near the First Class section of the plane. The act was allegedly captured on a cockpit camera, which typically displays live images but is not designed to record footage for later viewing. However, a crew member, possibly a pilot or another staff member, is said to have used a mobile device to record the act.
Airline’s Reaction
Swiss International Airlines has condemned the incident and emphasized its strict guidelines regarding passenger privacy.
“The filming of people without their clear consent, as well as the sharing of such recordings, contradict our guidelines and values and violate applicable data protection regulations,” said airline spokesperson Meike Fuhlrott, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
Fuhlrott criticized the crew for failing to address the situation appropriately. “Instead of recording, the crew should have intervened directly,” she said, reaffirming the airline’s confidence in its staff’s professionalism and competence.
The airline is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances under which the video was recorded and leaked. “We want to know exactly what happened and how these recordings came out,” Fuhlrott added.
Disciplinary Measures and Passenger Behavior
Swiss International Airlines assured the public that any staff members found responsible for recording or leaking the video would face disciplinary action.
In addition to addressing the actions of the crew, the airline expressed disappointment over the behavior of the passengers involved. “Such acts are unacceptable. The behavior of our passengers is usually respectful and appropriate,” the airline stated.
