Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Uttar Pradesh, an important review meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Director of UP NEDA with major PSU banks, REC, SLBC and related stakeholders with the aim of effective implementation of Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme and providing timely loans to solar rooftop consumers.
UPNEDA stands for the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency. It is a state government agency in Uttar Pradesh, India. It works under the Department of Additional Sources of Energy. It promotes clean and green energy sources like solar, bio-energy, and wind power. It helps reduce the state’s dependence on coal and fossil fuels.
The meeting was attended by representatives of major public sector banks including State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank, Union Bank of India, Canara Bank, Bank of India, Central Bank of India, Indian Bank, UCO Bank and SLBC and REC.
UP NEDA Director Ravinder Singh directed all banks to prevent unnecessary rejections of loan applications, ensure timely processing and approval of eligible consumer applications. He also urged banks that approved loans should be disbursed promptly to avoid delays in rooftop solar installations.
The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a central government initiative launched to provide up to 300 units of free electricity per month to one crore households across India through rooftop solar installations. Under this scheme, the government offers substantial subsidies of up to ₹78,000 directly credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts, heavily lowering the upfront installation cost.
He urged banks that Pending cases should be reviewed regularly, bank-wise, and resolved promptly. The meeting reviewed the status of pending loan applications, loan approvals, documentation processes, and loan disbursements under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
The meeting also emphasized strengthening regular coordination with banks and monitoring of pending cases through the SLBC. REC and related stakeholders were requested to cooperate in resolving practical issues arising in the banking process.
Earlier, the meeting reviewed the status of pending loan applications, loan approvals, documentation processes, and loan disbursements under the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme.
