Amritsar: Police have arrested three men who attempted to rob the Union Bank at Jandiali Guru on the afternoon of September 10th at gunpoint.
Police have recovered sharp weapons from the accused. The robbery was prevented on the day of the incident due to the alertness and valour of the bank guard. The robbers could not rob the bank due to the bravery of the guard.
Following an investigation based on CCTV camera traces, police arrested all three accused on Sunday morning. It has been learned that three other members of the gang are still at large.
On the afternoon of September 11th, the accused attempted to carry out a robbery at the Union Bank Jandiala Guru branch using weapons. Robbers were fully aware that more than fifteen lakh rupees in cash had arrived at the bank on the morning of September 10th. This means robbers were continuously doing recce of the bank. This is a serious issue and bank management and Government need to look into this.
After this, five robbers planned to carry out the crime, with one suspect keeping watch outside the bank.
Around five men entered the bank at about 11 a.m. and initially sat in the customer area, appearing to be regular customers, according to bank officials. Their faces were covered.
According to the FIR registered under Sections 310(2) and 62 of the BNS, security guard Satpal Singh got suspicious of the movement of the five youth. He asked them to uncover their faces. One of them allegedly pulled out a bottle containing a spray and sprayed it at the guard.
The guard managed to protect himself and raised the alarm. He even pulled out his weapon in order to confront the miscreants. Following this, the suspects fled towards a nearby lane. One of the bags was left behind inside the bank.
The situation changed when one of the men allegedly tried to spray the security guard. The guard reacted promptly, prompting the suspects to flee from the bank without taking any cash or valuables, officials said.
Police from Jandiala Guru police station registered a case against unknown suspects based on a complaint from bank manager Mukesh Kumar.
