The Telangana High Court has directed the state government to clear pending retirement benefits of Cholleti Raja Sukanya, a retired headmaster from Thorrur in Mahabubabad district, within eight weeks. The ruling comes as relief for several retired government employees who have been waiting for their dues.
Retired Employees Struggle for Benefits
Sukanya was among many retired government employees who approached the court, seeking the release of their retirement benefits, including commutation, gratuity, provident fund, earned leave, and surrender leave encashment. According to her lawyer, C.R. Sukumar, she had been repeatedly requesting the authorities for over seven months, but her efforts remained unsuccessful.
Court’s Directive to Clear Dues
Justice Namavarapu Rajeshwar Rao, after reviewing the case, instructed the government to release the pending benefits of all petitioners within eight weeks from the date of receiving the order. This decision is expected to impact several retired employees who have been struggling to receive their rightful payments.
Thousands of Retired Employees Affected
According to media reports cited by advocate C.R. Sukumar, nearly 10,000 government employees in Telangana have retired since March last year. Among them, school teachers account for nearly half of the total. Due to the delays in receiving their dues, many have turned to the Telangana High Court for legal intervention.
With hundreds of cases already filed, more retired employees continue to approach legal experts daily, seeking a resolution for their pending benefits. The High Court’s directive offers hope that the state government will act swiftly to address the long-standing issue.
