RBI Receives Second Bomb Threat, warns to blow up RBI
Mumbai – The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) received a bomb threat email on Friday, sparking concern and immediate action by law enforcement. The email, written in Russian, was sent to the official email ID of newly appointed RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra. The sender claimed that an IED bomb had been planted in the RBI building and would be activated remotely within five days. Last month also, RBI had received threat from unknown person about Bomb Blast.
The email also called upon the RBI Governor to join the “Brotherhood Movement for Ukraine.” Following the threat, Mumbai Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and conducted a thorough search of the RBI headquarters. However, no suspicious objects have been found so far, according to police officials.
New Governor Faces Immediate Challenge
This threat comes just days after Sanjay Malhotra assumed office as the 26th Governor of the Reserve Bank, succeeding Shaktikanta Das, who served in the role for six years. Malhotra, a Rajasthan cadre IAS officer, was appointed by the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
What Happened?
According to officials, the email was received on the RBI’s official communication channel and was immediately flagged. Mumbai Police Zone 1 DCP stated that a case has been registered against unknown persons at the Mata Ramabai Marg (MRA Marg) Police Station. The investigation is ongoing, with cybersecurity experts analyzing the origin of the email.
Delhi Schools Also Receive Bomb Threats
In a separate but similar incident, six schools in Delhi received bomb threat emails on Friday morning. The emails prompted immediate searches by investigative agencies across the school premises, but no explosives were found.
Earlier on December 9, 44 schools in Delhi had also received similar threats, which were later deemed hoaxes after thorough investigations.
Parents Advised Against Sending Children to School
The Delhi Fire Service confirmed receiving multiple calls from schools early Friday morning, including Bhatnagar International School in Paschim Vihar, Cambridge School in Shri Niwas Puri, and DPS Amar Colony in East of Kailash. Bomb disposal squads, dog teams, and police reached the locations and conducted extensive searches.
In light of the threats, school administrations advised parents not to send their children to school until the investigations were completed.
Authorities in both Mumbai and Delhi have intensified security measures and are working to trace the origins of these emails, raising concerns about the rising number of anonymous threats targeting public institutions.
