Pankaj Kumar Chaudhary, an IPS officer from the Rajasthan cadre, has been demoted for three years following an investigation into a family dispute that went to court. His position has been downgraded from the Level 11 senior pay scale to the Level 10 junior pay scale, which is typically given to new IPS officers.
This is reportedly the first instance of an IPS officer being demoted in Rajasthan.
Sources suggest that the decision came after authorities became aware of Mr. Chaudhary’s second marriage. He married another woman several years ago without first divorcing his first wife. The matter reportedly reached the Rajasthan High Court and later the Supreme Court about four years ago, with a ruling that was in Mr. Chaudhary’s favor.
Mr. Chaudhary commented on the issue, saying, “In this case, the order of the Central Administrative Tribunal in New Delhi in 2020, the High Court in New Delhi in 2021, and the Supreme Court in 2021 have all passed decisions in my favor.”
Despite the demotion, no official statement has been issued by authorities yet.
