A shocking incident has been reported from Punjab where a pet dog attacked a bank staff who had gone to see house for rent in Patiala.
The incident took place on Tuesday evening when Ankit Sabharwal, a manager at a private bank, and his wife Shifali Sabharwal, a professor at Chandigarh University, went to Ghuman Nagar with a property dealer to see the house.

The attack happened as soon as the gate of the house was opened. A pitbull suddenly dashed out and attacked Shifali. The dog severely mauled her arm and other parts of her body, causing deep injuries.
Ankit Sabharwal said, “I have received stitches all over my body. My wife has undergone surgery on her arms and legs. I want justice. The dog did not stop even after being ordered by its owner. My wife is under observation after surgery.”
The attack was so severe that Shifali had to undergo plastic surgery. She is under treatment at the private hospital. Ankit also suffered deep bite injuries on his legs and back while trying to save his wife.
After the video surfaced on social media, police took cognisance of the incident. DSP Jangjit Randhawa said police verified the video and contacted the family. The DSP said police would take legal action after receiving Shifali’s medical report.
He said an FIR would be registered under Section 291 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in cases where a pet animal bites or injures a person. Randhawa also said police would take action regarding dangerous dog breeds in accordance with court orders. He indicated that police could launch a campaign after August 15 to investigate and verify such cases.
Patiala Mayor Kundan Gogia said keeping aggressive dog breeds as pets would be banned in the city. He said the matter would be discussed at a House meeting of the municipal corporation, where a special resolution would be considered.
