Ministry of Finance released vacancy for Registrar, Assistant Registrar and Recovery Officer in DRT and DRAT
The Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, Government of India has invited applications for the posts of Registrar, Assistant Registrar and Recovery Officer in Debts Recovery Appellate Tribunals (DRATs) and Debts Recovery Tribunals (DRTs). The recruitment will be made on a deputation basis. A total of 17 vacancies are available, including 4 posts of Registrar, 2 posts of Assistant Registrar and 11 posts of Recovery Officer. Eligible and willing officers from Central Government, State Government, Courts, Tribunals and Public Sector Banks can apply through proper channel.
DRAT DRT Recruitment 2026 Vacancy Details
There are 4 vacancies for the post of Registrar. Three existing vacancies are available in DRTs at Kolkata, Madurai and Chennai, while one anticipated vacancy is at Cuttack. Any unforeseen vacancies may also be included. The Registrar vacancy in DRT-3, Kolkata is subject to the outcome of WPCT No. 197/2025 titled Union of India Vs. Anup Mitra before the Hon’ble Calcutta High Court.
There are 2 vacancies for the post of Assistant Registrar. One existing vacancy is available at DRT Cuttack and one anticipated vacancy is at DRT Chandigarh. Any unforeseen vacancies may also arise. The Assistant Registrar vacancy at DRT Cuttack is subject to the outcome of Original Application No. 273/2025 titled Anup Mitra Vs. Union of India before the CAT, Kolkata.
There are 11 vacancies for the post of Recovery Officer. Three existing vacancies are available at DRTs in Chennai, Mumbai and Visakhapatnam. Eight anticipated vacancies are at Bengaluru, Chandigarh (2), Dehradun, Delhi, Kolkata, Patna and Siliguri, apart from any unforeseen vacancies.
Pay Scale
The post of Registrar is in Pay Level 12 of the 7th Central Pay Commission pay matrix, carrying a pay scale of Rs. 78,800 to Rs. 2,09,200. The posts of Assistant Registrar and Recovery Officer are in Pay Level 11, carrying a pay scale of Rs. 67,700 to Rs. 2,08,700.
Registrar Eligibility
For the post of Registrar, officers working under the Central Government, State Governments, Courts or Tribunals must either be holding an analogous post on a regular basis in their parent cadre or department, or have five years of regular service in Level 11 of the pay matrix, which carries a pay scale of Rs. 67,700–2,08,700 or equivalent.
Officers from Public Sector Banks can apply if they are holding an analogous post in Scale V on a regular basis in their parent cadre or department, or have five years of regular service in Scale IV. Experience in legal or judicial work is desirable for the post of Registrar.
Assistant Registrar Eligibility
For the post of Assistant Registrar, officers from the Central Government, State Governments, Courts or Tribunals must either hold an analogous post on a regular basis or have the prescribed regular service in the relevant grade. The required service is five years in Level 9, six years in Level 8, or seven years in Level 7 of the pay matrix, subject to the conditions mentioned in the notification.
For Public Sector Bank officers, Scale IV officers holding an analogous post on a regular basis or Scale III officers having five years of regular service in the post are eligible. Experience in legal or judicial work is desirable.
Recovery Officer Eligibility
For the post of Recovery Officer, officers from Central Government, State Governments, Courts or Tribunals must either hold an analogous post on a regular basis or have the required regular service in the relevant grade. The notification provides the requirement of five years of service in Level 9, six years in Level 8 or seven years in Level 7, subject to the prescribed conditions.
Public Sector Bank officers can apply if they are Scale IV officers holding an analogous post on a regular basis or Scale III officers having five years of regular service in the post. A degree in law or legal experience is desirable for the Recovery Officer post.
Age Limit
The maximum age limit for appointment on deputation is 56 years as on the closing date for receipt of applications. The crucial date for determining eligibility is 8 September 2026. Even if the application period is extended, the notification states that the crucial date for determining eligibility will remain unchanged.
Deputation Period
Selected candidates will be appointed on deputation for a period of four years. The period may be curtailed or extended in the interest of administrative exigencies. The overall period of deputation, including any immediately preceding deputation to another post in the same or another Central Government organisation or department, will ordinarily not exceed four years.
Important Conditions
The number of vacancies and their locations may change without further notice. Candidates selected for the posts may be posted against any vacant post irrespective of the location preference given in the application.
Eligible officers must submit their applications separately for each post if they are applying for more than one post. Applications must be submitted through proper channel, meaning through the concerned Cadre Controlling Authority. Candidates selected for deputation will not be allowed to withdraw their candidature. Withdrawal after selection will result in a one-year debarment from deputation in DRATs/DRTs.
Documents Required
The Cadre Controlling Authority is required to forward the applications along with Vigilance Clearance, Integrity Certificate, Major/Minor Penalty Certificate and attested or certified copies of the officer’s ACRs/APARs/Gradings for the last five years, from 2021-22 to 2025-26.
If an ACR/APAR/Grading for a period of more than three months is not available, the corresponding report from a period before 2021-22 may be submitted along with a No Report Certificate (NRC). If no report is available for an assessment year, a report for the year prior to 2021-22 is to be provided.
Application Process
Eligible and willing officers should submit their applications in the prescribed format through proper channel, that is, through their Cadre Controlling Authority. Officers applying for more than one post are required to submit a separate application for each post.
The completed applications, along with all required documents, must reach the Department of Financial Services on or before 8 September 2026. Applications received after the last date, applications with incomplete documents or applications not received through proper channel will not be considered.

Who Can Apply?
This recruitment is mainly for eligible officers working in Central Government, State Government, Courts, Tribunals and Public Sector Banks. For PSB officers, the notification specifically provides eligibility for Scale III, Scale IV and Scale V officers depending on the post applied for.
Selection and Posting
The appointments will be made on a deputation basis. After selection, the candidates may be posted at any of the available vacancies in DRATs or DRTs, irrespective of the place preferred by the candidate in the application. The Department has also reserved the right to relax the eligibility conditions in the interest of administrative exigencies for any class or category of applicants.
