The body of a missing woman, Vandana, an employee of Punjab National Bank (PNB) Balluana, was recovered from a canal in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, on Sunday evening. Her two-year-old daughter, Pranshi, was found dead in the same canal a day earlier.
Vandana, a resident of Priya Enclave on Fazilka Road, had been missing for about 10 days. Police have shifted both bodies to the Civil Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Case Registered Against Husband and In-Laws
Following a complaint by Vandana’s father, City-1 police station has registered a case against her husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law, and sister-in-law. The deceased’s family alleges that Vandana and her daughter were driven to this tragic fate due to harassment by her in-laws.
Family Demands Arrests Before Funeral
Vandana’s parents have refused to perform the last rites of their daughter and granddaughter until the accused in-laws are arrested. They have also warned that if justice is not served, they will stage a protest at the police station.
Disappearance and Search Efforts
According to reports, Vandana left her home with her daughter on February 20 at around 2:30 pm. When she did not return for a long time, her family started searching but could not find her.
Some local residents informed them that Vandana had jumped into the Gang Canal along with her child. The family immediately called divers to search the waters, but they were unable to find them at the time. Their bodies were recovered several days later.
Police are investigating the case, and further legal action will be taken based on the post-mortem report and ongoing inquiries.
