According to a survey conducted by PwC called ‘Global Workforce Hopes and Fears’, it has been found that a larger number of employees are considering changing jobs in the coming year compared to the phenomenon known as the ‘Great Resignation’ in 2022.

Out of the employees surveyed, 19 percent expressed their likelihood of changing employers within the next 12 months. However, an even higher percentage, 28 percent, indicated that they are willing to make a job change specifically in the year 2024.

Job Satisfaction and the Desire for Change

Interestingly, the survey also revealed that job satisfaction has slightly increased compared to the previous year. Currently, 60 percent of employees claim to be either very or moderately satisfied with their jobs, while last year, only 56 percent made the same claim. However, it is important to note that job satisfaction does not necessarily translate to employee loyalty, as a significant portion of the workforce is actively considering other opportunities.

While 60 percent of workers feel confident about their job security overall, a considerable number express concerns due to recent changes in their workplace. This combination of factors may lead to decreased productivity, increased stress and anxiety, a fear of taking risks, and a decline in morale among employees.

Importance of Fair Pay and Performance

Not surprisingly, the survey found that fair pay for performance is the top factor that employees believe would help them perform better in their jobs. Of the workers surveyed, 82 percent rated being fairly compensated as very important or extremely important. However, less than three-fifths of these workers agree that their current job meets this expectation.

The Impact of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI)

The survey also explored the impact of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) on the workforce. It was found that 40 percent of employees who have used GenAI in the past year believe that it will fundamentally change their profession within the next five years. However, it is important for leaders to engage all segments of their workforce in their vision for the future to ensure successful transformation efforts.

Reducing Administrative Inefficiencies

Both workers and CEOs share a common frustration when it comes to administrative tasks, wasted time, and organizational friction in the workplace. Approximately 40 percent of their time spent on administrative activities is perceived as being inefficient. Interestingly, both workers and CEOs believe that GenAI could help alleviate this issue and free up more time. More than 80 percent of workers who use GenAI daily expect it to make their time at work more efficient in the next 12 months.
