There’s been a troubling incident at the Central Bank of India branch in Kanpur recently. It appears that a case of theft involving a cheque has surfaced. The police have taken action by filing a First Information Report (FIR) against the bank’s manager and employees.

Here’s what happened: Ranjana, a resident of Deputy Ka Padav, had deposited a cheque of Rs 2.79 lakh from her husband, Pappu Srivastava, in the bank’s drop box last year on September 2. This cheque was part of their alimony dispute being settled in family court.

However, when the cheque didn’t get processed for several days, Ranjana visited the bank to inquire about it. To her dismay, the bank employees informed her that the cheque couldn’t be found. When she requested to see the CCTV footage, she was shown footage from various cameras but not the one facing the drop box, allegedly due to a signal issue.

Despite her complaints to the bank officials, the police station, and even the police commissioner, no action was taken. Frustrated by the lack of response, Ranjana sought help from the court, which has now directed the police to investigate the matter. Chamanganj police station’s in-charge, Mohammad Hamid Siddiqui, confirmed that an FIR has been registered based on the court’s order, and they have begun investigating the case.
