The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the status of applications received under its Citizen’s Charter for July 2026. The data shows how many applications RBI received, how many were processed within the prescribed time limit, and how many were still pending at the end of the month.

What is RBI Citizen’s Charter?

A Citizen’s Charter is a document through which an organisation informs the public about the services it provides and the expected time within which those services should be completed. In simple words, RBI’s Citizen’s Charter tells applicants what services they can apply for and how much time RBI normally takes to process each service.

These services relate to different functions of RBI, such as currency management, foreign exchange management, payment and settlement systems, regulation and supervision, debt management, and services provided to banks and governments.

These applications are filed with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) because RBI is responsible for providing various regulatory, financial and banking-related services. Banks, financial institutions, companies, government entities and, depending on the service, individuals may need to approach RBI for approvals, permissions, authorisations or other regulatory requirements.

For example, applications may relate to foreign exchange transactions, regulation and supervision of banks and financial institutions, payment and settlement systems, currency management, government debt management, and RBI’s role as banker to banks and governments.

Therefore, the applications reported under RBI’s Citizen’s Charter should not be confused with customer complaints against banks. They represent applications and requests submitted for the various services covered under RBI’s Citizen’s Charter.

RBI Received Over 21,000 New Applications in July

According to RBI data, 2,613 applications were pending at the beginning of July 2026. During the month, RBI received another 21,937 new applications.

Another 664 applications were sent back to applicants for additional information. This means that further details, documents or clarification were required from the applicants before RBI could continue processing their applications.

All 9,226 applications under this category were processed within the prescribed timeline.

Another 1,091 applications were pending within the timeline, while 16 applications remained pending beyond the timeline.

RBI Citizen’s Charter Covers 213 Services

RBI regularly reviews the services included under its Citizen’s Charter. As of July 31, 2026, a total of 213 services were covered under the Charter.
