A branch manager of Punjab National Bank in Chhitoni, Kushinagar, India, was caught red-handed taking a bribe on Saturday, September 16, 2023. The CBI, India’s premier investigating agency, arrested the manager, identified as Sourabh Raghuvanshi, after a sting operation.
According to the CBI, Raghuvanshi was demanding a bribe of ₹30,000 from a customer in exchange for approving a loan application. The customer, identified as Pradip Kushwaha, had filed a complaint with the CBI after Raghuvanshi refused to approve the loan without the bribe.
On Saturday, Kushwaha went to the bank with ₹27,000 in cash, which was ₹3,000 less than the bribe amount. The CBI team was waiting for him inside the bank and caught Raghuvanshi taking the bribe.
The CBI team then conducted a four-hour search of the bank, during which they seized ₹85,000 in cash and other evidence of corruption. The CBI also arrested Raghuvanshi and took him into custody.
The CBI is expected to conduct further searches at Raghuvanshi’s home and other locations.
