The Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) held a protest outside the Punjab National Bank branch in Syohara, Bijnor. The protest was against the bank manager over alleged fraud and irregularities in farmers’ loan accounts. BKU members also submitted a memorandum to the Naib Tehsildar and the Station House Officer (SHO).
Farmer’s Account Allegedly Used for Fraud
Farmers alleged that an unauthorized person allegedly withdrew ₹1 lakh from the account of a farmer named Anisha Nangli. According to the allegation, the person replaced the farmer’s photograph with their own to withdraw the money. BKU leaders demanded that the ₹1 lakh be recovered immediately and called the incident a serious irregularity.
Farmers Raise Loan Settlement Issues
The protesting farmers also alleged that the bank was demanding excessive amounts from them in the name of loan settlements. These issues led to anger among the farmers, who demanded that the matter be investigated properly.
Demand for Investigation
During the protest, Naib Tehsildar and SHO Sanjay Singh Tomar were present on behalf of the administration. BKU leaders raised their concerns with the bank manager and submitted a written complaint to the officials.
They demanded a detailed investigation into the bank’s operations and strict action against anyone found responsible for irregularities.
Protest Called Off After Assurance
The Naib Tehsildar and SHO assured the farmers that they would not be allowed to face injustice and that their complaints would be looked into. Following the assurance, the protest was called off at around 4 PM.
