A two-day national conference of the All India Bank of Baroda Employees Co-ordination Committee (AIBOBACC) began on Tuesday. This event brought together bank employees, union leaders, and key officials to discuss important challenges faced by the Bank of Baroda and the banking sector as a whole. The conference was hosted by the Bank of Baroda Staff Union (BOBSU) for the first time in 15 years, making it a significant occasion for the organization.

Shortage of Staff and Outsourcing Problems
Janak Rawal, General Secretary of AIBOBACC, raised a major concern about the shortage of clerical and fourth-class employees in the Bank of Baroda. He said this shortage is causing difficulties in providing quality customer service.
Rawal also pointed out that the bank’s management is relying heavily on outsourcing workers to fill the gaps instead of hiring permanent staff. He stressed the need for the bank to recruit permanent employees to solve this issue and ensure better services.
In addition to staffing problems, Rawal suggested that instead of selling Nainital Bank to a private company, it should be merged with the Bank of Baroda. This, he explained, would strengthen Nainital Bank’s operations and keep it within the public sector. There are talks that Nainital Bank might be privatised. The employees of Nainital Bank have requested government to merge it with Bank of Baroda. The Nainital bank is a subsidiary of Bank of Baroda which is under the ownership of Ministry of Finance of the Government of India.
Call for a Nationwide Movement
During the conference, union members discussed plans for a nationwide movement in January. This movement will focus on ending the contract system, hiring permanent staff, and opposing the privatization of government-owned banks.
Union leaders emphasized that privatization not only affects employees but also impacts the overall stability of public sector banks. They are urging the government to support public banks instead of allowing private companies to take over.
Warning Against Privatization
CH Venkatachalam, General Secretary of the All India Bank Employees Association, warned the central government against privatizing government banks. He said that if any government-owned bank is privatized, 10 lakh bank employees across the country would go on strike within 24 hours.
He also urged the government to focus on recovering unpaid loans from large industrial houses instead of increasing banking charges for regular customers. According to Venkatachalam, these steps would help public sector banks remain strong and customer-friendly.
Key Leaders Address the Conference
The conference was attended by several important figures, including M Anil, General Manager of Bank of Baroda, and LK Gupta, General Secretary of BOBSU. Both leaders spoke about the significance of the event and the importance of addressing the issues faced by employees and customers.
Other speakers included AIBOBACC Chairman CS Dahiya, President Rajneesh Gupta, and RPBEU General Secretary Mahesh Mishra. They all highlighted the need for permanent solutions to the challenges faced by public sector banks.
Special Honors
The event also recognized the contributions of key individuals. Shaili Agarwal, HR Head of the Bank of Baroda Jaipur Zone, and Suraj Bhan Amera, Deputy General Secretary of RPBEU, were honored for their valuable roles in supporting the bank and its employees.
Unified Action for the Future
The conference ended with a strong message of unity among bank employees. The participants agreed to stand together to oppose privatization and push for reforms that focus on hiring permanent staff and improving customer service.
The discussions and resolutions made during the conference are expected to shape the future actions of bank employees and unions in the coming months. The focus remains on protecting public sector banks and ensuring their growth and stability.
