Punjab National Bank Special Assistant sentenced 7 Years Jail

The CBI Court has awarded 7 Years rigorous imprisonment to former official of Oriental Bank of Commerce in Bank Fraud Case of Over Rs. 12 Lakh.

Oriental Bank of Commerce was merged into Punjab National Bank, alongside the United Bank of India on April 1, 2020.

The CBI Court, Jaipur, on 06.08.2026, has convicted and sentenced the accused Murari Lal Meena, the then Special Assistant, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Sheosinghpura, Lalsot, Dausa, to Rigorous Imprisonment for Seven Years with a fine of Rs. 1,25,000, in a bank fraud case.

The case was registered on 01.02.2019 based on the complaint lodged by the Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC). Bank said that the accused Murari Lal Meena, Special Assistant, abused his official position by dishonestly issuing unauthorized ‘No Dues’ Certificates, thereby facilitating release of mortgaged securities despite outstanding loan liabilities and causing a wrongful loss of ₹12,14,660.71 to the bank, across three loan accounts.

After completion of investigation, the CBI filed chargesheet on 30.09.2019 against the accused. Charges against the accused were framed on 12.10.2022. The Hon’ble Court, after the trial, convicted and sentenced the accused, accordingly.

This case is an important reminder for all bank employees to remain extremely careful while performing official duties, particularly in loan accounts and release of securities.

Never issue a No Dues Certificate, release mortgaged property or security, close a loan account, or approve any transaction unless all required conditions have been fulfilled and the action is permitted under the bank’s rules. Always verify the outstanding liability, obtain required approvals and maintain proper records before taking any such action.
