Recently a case of locker fraud has come into light in State Bank of India’s New Mandi branch in Muzaffarnagar. The locker holder had died and subsequently, upon the heir’s request for the jewelry following the succession, it was discovered to be missing.
Investigation revealed that the accountant during the merger of State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur failed to record and hand over the mentioned items. A case was filed against the accountant at the New Mandi police station, following court orders. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
Merger Details:
According to a report by SBI branch manager Arjit Kumar, the merger of State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur into the State Bank of India occurred on March 31, 2017. Post-merger, all belongings of the State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur New Mandi branch fell under the jurisdiction of the SBI New Mandi branch. Among the transferred items was the contents of locker number 16 from SBI Bikaner and Jaipur, which included gold jewelry and various items.
Succession Case and Subsequent Actions:
On May 22, 2022, after the succession case was decided, Raman, the heir from Mandi, demanded the missing items. Upon informing the bank branch accountant, it was revealed that the record register, including number 16, had disappeared.
SBI New Mandi branch manager Arjit Kumar initially approached the police station and later the SSP, requesting a case against the former accountant, Murtaza Khan, from the SBI Bikaner and Jaipur branch in Model Town village Sujadu.
When no action was taken, a court intervention occurred, resulting in the registration of a case at New Mandi Kotwali on the orders of ACJM I. Incharge Inspector Bablu Singh stated that a case has been registered, and further action will be taken after the investigation.
