Hitachi Payment Services, a leading provider of payments and commerce solutions, has partnered with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to introduce the nation’s first-ever UPI-ATM as a White Label ATM (WLA), enabling secure card-less cash withdrawals.
A UPI-ATM allows users to withdraw cash from multiple accounts using the United Payments Interface (UPI) app. WLAs are operated by non-banking entities.
This UPI-only White Label ATM enhances customer security by eliminating the need for physical cards, delivering a unified and secure user experience. It also promotes financial inclusion by providing access to banking services in areas with limited traditional infrastructure and card usage.
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) stated that the launch of the ‘UPI ATM’ signifies a remarkable achievement in banking services, seamlessly integrating the convenience and security of UPI into traditional ATMs, particularly benefiting remote areas by eliminating the need for physical cards.
Hitachi has over 65,500 ATMs (including 27,500 cash recycling machines) and 9,500 WLAs under management. In addition, it caters to over 3 million merchant touchpoints and processes over 7 million digital transactions daily.
