Income Tax Department issues Rs.3.92 Lakh Crore in Refunds Till February 2025

New data from the Income Tax Department reveals that over 9.11 crore registered users have filed their Income Tax Returns (ITR) for the financial year 2024-25 as of February 28, 2025. This is a significant number, considering the total registered users stand at 13.96 crore, meaning more than 65% of taxpayers have already filed their returns.

Increase in E-Verified Tax Returns

Out of the total filings, 8.56 crore tax returns have been e-verified, ensuring faster processing and refunds. The Income Tax Department has also issued ₹3.92 lakh crore in refunds up to February 28, 2025.

Rise in High-Income Tax Filers

A notable trend in this year’s filings is the number of high-income taxpayers:

Increased Use of Tax Department’s Utility

Interestingly, over 40% of taxpayers used the Income Tax Department’s online filing utility to submit their returns, ensuring faster processing.

With tax compliance on the rise and high-income earners increasing, the latest data highlights a positive trend in India’s tax ecosystem for FY 2024-25.
