A female student from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati, identified as Aishwarya Pulluri, was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room in the Paltan Bazaar area of the city.
Background
Aishwarya, a fourth-year BTech student in the Electronics and Communications department, hailed from Telangana. On December 31 evening, she, along with three batchmates, went to the city’s Paltan Bazaar area, approximately 25 kilometers from the institute, to celebrate the New Year.
Events Leading to the Tragedy:
The group had booked two hotel rooms online and checked in post-midnight after reportedly being inebriated.
The next morning, Aishwarya was found unconscious in the washroom by her friend, who shared the same room. She was immediately taken to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by doctors.
Police Investigation:
The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Aishwarya’s death. All her friends, including the other occupants of the hotel rooms, are being interrogated as part of the investigation.
