Good news for Railway Employees! Govt has approved Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) for Railway Employees
Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) for Railway Employees: The Union Cabinet has approved the payment of a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) for 11,72,240 railway employees. The total cost of this bonus will be Rs 2,028.57 crore. The bonus is meant to recognize and reward railway workers for their excellent performance over the past year.
The PLB is equal to 78 days’ wages and will be given to different types of railway staff, such as track maintainers, loco pilots, train managers (guards), station masters, supervisors, technicians, technician helpers, pointsmen, ministerial staff, and other Group C employees. The purpose of this bonus is to motivate railway employees to keep improving the Railways’ performance. Each eligible railway employee will receive a maximum bonus of Rs 17,951 for 78 days of work.
The government said the Railways did very well in 2023-2024. Railways moved a record amount of cargo, 1,588 million tonnes, and transported nearly 6.7 billion passengers. This achievement was possible because of better infrastructure, which was boosted by significant government spending, improved operations, and new technology.
Last year, railway employees also received a 78-day bonus. According to the Sixth Pay Commission, the minimum basic income for Group D employees is Rs 7,000, which works out to around Rs 18,000 for 78 days. In 2022, the government gave a Diwali bonus of Rs 17,951 per employee to more than 11 lakh railway workers, amounting to Rs 1,832 crore.
As is the tradition, this year’s PLB will be paid before the Durga Puja and Dussehra holidays. This bonus continues the yearly practice of rewarding non-gazetted railway staff for their hard work and contributions to the success of the Indian Railways.
