Chapra, Bihar: In a distressing incident in Saran, a husband and wife tragically took their own lives after enduring relentless harassment from employees of Bandhan Bank. The incident occurred at the Riwilganj railway station along the Chhapra-Ballia railway line. Both individuals consumed poison as a means to end their lives. It has been revealed that the couple had taken a microfinance loan of Rs 1 lakh for their granddaughter’s wedding, with weekly installments due. However, they had been unable to make payments for the past few weeks, leading to immense frustration and despair.

The couple has been identified as Rameshwar Prasad and Lalmuni Devi, residents of Gamharia Kala Futani Bazar in the Jalalpur police station area. Rameshwar Prasad, who supported his household through daily wage labor, found himself unable to repay the loan. As a result, bank employees began frequently visiting their house, subjecting them to abuse and harassment. The pressure to repay the loan quickly became unbearable for the couple.

After enduring mental harassment, the husband and wife went missing from their home for three to four days. Their bodies were discovered at the Riwilganj railway station on Saturday morning. Local residents promptly informed the Riwilganj police station of the tragic incident. The local police then notified the Government Railway Police, who arrived at the scene to initiate an investigation. The news of the incident caused great distress among the family members.

The couple’s son revealed that his father had taken a loan from Bandhan Bank and had been facing constant harassment. He further explained that his parents had been missing from home for several days, and this morning, the devastating news of their deaths reached the family.

SDPO Sadar Rajkishore Singh stated that the bodies were found at Riwilganj Halt, under the jurisdiction of the Riwilganj police station. The couple had obtained a loan of Rs 1 lakh from Bandhan Bank through a microfinance scheme. Due to non-payment of installments, the bank employees had been exerting pressure on them. Currently, no formal application has been received, but appropriate action will be taken as soon as an application is submitted.

This incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of addressing mental health issues and ensuring that individuals in financial distress receive the necessary support and assistance. If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health or experiencing financial difficulties, it is vital to seek help from professionals and support networks available in your community.
