One more case of corruption has come to light in Punjab National Bank (PNB). Earlier PNB Branch Manager in Budaun was arrested by CBI for demanding bribe. Now, a business correspondent of Punjab National Bank in Bilsi branch has been arrested by CBI for taking Bribe.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Business Correspondent linked to Punjab National Bank (PNB), Bilsi Branch in Budaun, Uttar Pradesh. The arrest was made after the accused was caught red-handed while taking a bribe of ₹8,500 from a complainant.

Bribe Demanded for Allowing Withdrawal from KCC Account

According to reports, the CBI registered a case on April 30, 2025, against the bank official working with Punjab National Bank’s Bilsi Branch. The official was accused of demanding a bribe of ₹15,000 from the complainant. This bribe was allegedly sought to allow the complainant to withdraw money from a joint Kisan Credit Card (KCC) account belonging to the complainant’s uncle.

After discussions between the complainant and the accused, the bribe amount was reduced to ₹8,500. The complainant then approached the CBI and filed a complaint about the illegal demand.

CBI Catches Accused Red-Handed

Acting swiftly, the CBI set up a trap to catch the accused. The plan worked, and the accused was caught red-handed while taking the bribe from the complainant.

During further investigation, the accused’s actual role was identified as a Business Correspondent working with Punjab National Bank’s Bilsi Branch, and not a regular bank employee.

The accused was arrested by the CBI on April 30, 2025. He is set to be presented before the Special Judge of the Anti-Corruption CBI Court No.3 in Lucknow on May 1, 2025.

What is a Business Correspondent?

A Business Correspondent (BC) is a representative authorized by a bank to provide banking services in areas where the bank does not have a branch. They help customers open accounts, deposit or withdraw money, and provide other banking services. However, they are expected to follow all banking rules and ethical practices.

In this case, the Business Correspondent misused his position by demanding a bribe for a service that should have been provided without any extra payment.
