Branch Manager and Field Officer of Baroda UP Gramin Bank Suspended in Corruption Case

Kanpur Dehat: The branch manager and field officer of Baroda Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank’s Baraur branch have been suspended. Both officers were arrested two days ago by the CBI during a raid on corruption charges. The bank has said that further departmental action will also be taken.

The arrest was based on a complaint filed by Kanak Patel, son of Vimal Kumar, who lives in Chandana Mau village under Bhognipur police station. Kanak Patel had lodged a corruption complaint with the CBI in Lucknow three days earlier. After receiving the complaint, the CBI set a trap.

According to CBI, a case was registered on 13 November 2025 after a complaint was filed against the two officials. The complainant reported that the officers demanded an illegal payment of ₹7,000 to approve a Kisan Credit Card (KCC) Tatkal Loan of ₹1,20,000, applied for by the complainant’s brother-in-law.

As part of the trap, Kanak Patel gave ₹7,000 to Anish, a public service operator. Anish then gave the money to branch manager Arpit Awasthi. As soon as the money was handed over, the CBI caught branch manager Arpit Awasthi and field officer Shakti Singh Sengar red-handed.

After the arrest, the CBI took both officers to Lucknow for questioning. Based on the evidence collected, they were produced before a CBI court, which sent them to jail under judicial custody. Avnish Kumar, DRM of Baroda Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank, has confirmed that both officers have been suspended.
