An Assistant Audit Officer, Santosh Kumar Panigrahy, has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Bhubaneswar for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 6,500.
A case was registered against Panigrahy based on a complaint, alleging that he demanded a bribe of Rs. 6,500 from a complainant in exchange for not raising any audit objections regarding the complainant’s office’s medical bills. The bribe amounted to 10% of the total medical bill of Rs. 65,000.
The CBI set up a sting operation and caught Panigrahy in the act of demanding and accepting the bribe. Searches were also conducted at his premises in Bhubaneswar and Visakhapatnam, where documents related to immovable properties were recovered.
