The RBI has given permission to Banks to do cheque clearing on Sunday – 27 September 2026. The Government of India has ordered Banks to remain open on Sunday for customer convenience, due to upcoming 3-day strike from 28 to 30 September 2026.
Earlier, the RBI has given approval to banks to open branches on Sunday but the permission for cheque clearing under negotiable instruments act was not provided.
Now, RBI has given permission to do cheque clearing as per NI Act. The Banks have also released their internal circulars and informed staff about the same.
Earlier, RBI had granted permission to open branches, offices, ATM link branches and Currency Chests on September 27, 2026 (Sunday) vide their communication letter dated September 22, 2026.
Now, as per RBI and NPCI Communication dated 25.09.2026, all banks have been advised to ensure availability of Cheque Clearing infrastructure and seamless conduct of clearing operations without any disruption on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
