Insurance Employees Extends Support to Bank Employees’ Three-Day Strike
The All India Insurance Employees’ Association (AIIEA) has extended its support to the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) and bank employees across the country for their three-day strike from September 28 to September 30, 2026. The main demand of the strike is the implementation of a five-day banking week.

AIIEA said that five-day banking is a long-pending demand of bank employees. The association said that an agreement on the issue was reached at the industry level during the bipartite settlement process in March 2024, but the required government approval has still not been received.
AIIEA said the continued delay has caused concern and dissatisfaction among bank employees. It added that the UFBU has decided to go on an indefinite strike from October 26, 2026, if the demands remain unresolved.
The association also alleged that instead of holding discussions with the UFBU to resolve the pending demands, the government and the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) have been using “diversionary and intimidatory tactics” to weaken the employees’ struggle.
AIIEA said it fully supports the bank employees’ strike and has called upon insurance employees across the country to hold solidarity demonstrations during lunch recess on September 29, 2026. The association also expressed its support for the ongoing struggle of bank employees and officers.
