On the night of October 21, a tragic incident unfolded in Aligarh, as a group of robbers mercilessly attacked a 24-year-old private bank employee. This horrifying ordeal led to the victim’s untimely demise, after the criminals coerced him into making an online transfer of Rs 98,000 from his bank account. This brutal incident occurred while the victim was en route to his hometown in Pilibhit district.
Several days later, on Thursday, law enforcement authorities announced the successful apprehension of seven suspects, thanks to a valuable tip-off. The victim, identified as Yusuf Ahmad from Gaybojh village in the Amaria police jurisdiction, was discovered lifeless near the Pilibhit-Madhotanda road, within the Sungarhi police’s purview at around 6 pm on Wednesday. The body had significantly decomposed by this time.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anil Kumar Yadav disclosed that Yusuf’s father, Maqsood Ahmad, became concerned when his son failed to return home on October 21. Additionally, Yusuf’s phone was switched off, raising further alarm. Following the grim discovery of his body, Pilibhit’s Superintendent of Police, Atul Kumar Sharma, swiftly organized three police teams to investigate the case. These teams consisted of officers from the Sungarhi police station and two units from the special operations group and surveillance cell.
During the course of their investigation, the surveillance team uncovered evidence of online money transfers made by Yusuf to specific individuals. This vital lead led to the arrest of the main suspect, Bharti Sanjiv, and subsequent arrests followed suit. Notably, all of the suspects apprehended are young, ranging in age from 18 to 22 years, as confirmed by the police.
Interrogations with the suspects unveiled the chilling details of the incident. It was revealed that Yusuf had arrived at Pilibhit railway station from Aligarh around 10:30 pm on the fateful night. Since it was nighttime and there were no available means of transportation to his own village, he proceeded to his maternal uncle’s house at Chidaiya Dah. Tragically, as Yusuf walked alone, the assailants confronted him and forcibly took his bag. When they found nothing of value within, they coerced him into making the online transfer of Rs 98,000, the entirety of his account balance, as per the information he provided them.
Regrettably, the robbers subsequently took Yusuf’s life and discarded his body amidst the bushes, a short distance from the road. The seven accused individuals have been charged under sections 302 (murder) and 120 (criminal conspiracy to commit a crime) of the Indian Penal Code and have been remanded to prison.
