Bank Credit Growth Jumps to 18.3% in June 2026, Services Sector Leads with 21.4% Growth

Bank credit recorded strong growth across major sectors in June 2026. Non-food bank credit grew 18.3% year-on-year, compared with 9.3% a year earlier. Credit to the services sector increased 21.4%, followed by industry at 19.2%, agriculture and allied activities at 16.8%, and personal loans at 15.8%. The data, collected from 41 selected Scheduled Commercial Banks covering around 95% of total non-food credit, shows significantly higher credit growth across most major sectors compared with the previous year.

Data on the sector-wise deployment of bank credit for June 2026 has been collected from 41 selected Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs). These banks together account for around 95% of the total non-food credit provided by all Scheduled Commercial Banks.

Non-Food Bank Credit Grows 18.3%

Non-food bank credit recorded strong year-on-year growth of 18.3% as of the fortnight ended June 30, 2026. In comparison, non-food bank credit had grown by 9.3% during the corresponding fortnight ended June 27, 2025.

Agriculture Credit Grows 16.8%

Bank credit to agriculture and allied activities increased by 16.8% year-on-year as of June 30, 2026. This was significantly higher than the 6.8% growth recorded during the corresponding period of the previous year.

Credit to Industry Rises 19.2%

Credit to the industry sector recorded strong year-on-year growth of 19.2%, compared with growth of 6.3% during the corresponding fortnight of the previous year.

Credit growth was broad-based across micro and small, medium and large industries. Among major industries, strong credit growth was recorded in infrastructure, engineering, food processing, textiles, construction, basic metals and metal products, petroleum, coal products and nuclear fuels, and chemicals and chemical products.

However, credit growth in rubber, plastic and related products, as well as wood and wood products, remained relatively subdued.

Services Sector Credit Grows 21.4%

Credit to the services sector increased by 21.4% year-on-year, significantly higher than the 8.8% growth recorded during the corresponding period of the previous year.

The strong growth was supported by higher credit to segments such as Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs), commercial real estate and trade.

Personal Loans Grow 15.8%

Credit to the personal loans segment increased by 15.8% year-on-year, compared with growth of 11.7% during the corresponding period a year ago.

Vehicle loans and housing loans continued to record steady double-digit growth. However, the growth in outstanding credit card loans slowed during the period.
